Here's to your heart
Your heart as you know is vital to life but there are also so many other aspects to it that as we go through life we begin to realize.
The first time it became a big focus (besides teenage heartbreak) not counting that, was when our second child was born. She was born with a heart defect and since then her heart has become a focal point in our lives. Her first 5 1/2 weeks of her life was spent in the hospital. After a procedure and many other health scares we got to bring her home. She was on many medications that had to be delivered numerous times daily and she saw her cardiologist every few days eventually spreading out as she grew strong. Fast forward to now we still watch her closely and she sees that same wonderful cardiologist every year. We don't know what the future holds but we are thankful everyday for a heart that is beating.
Recently we experienced another heart moment. As a child with aspergers you have to help them to identify body sensations with feelings and experiences. We all know that anxiety causes many adverse body sensations. She recently starting complaining about her heart, beating fast, beating hard and so on. Of course we became concerned so we went to the doctor, they decided to do a 48 hour heart monitor. The reading came out ok but of course this experience was no fun for anyone.
Come to find out that she was experiences a body sensation that she had not related to feelings before. Her anxiety and the release of adrenalin causes her heart to react. Also when children go through puberty the heart can be erratic with release of hormones.
So lesson be learned- listen to your body and it's sensations, they could be trying to tell us something.
