Salt and Pepper shakers

Have your noticed that interesting salt and pepper shakers can set you back quite a few pennies. I took this as a challenge a few years back and took to the thrift stores. I have a found a few since and added to the rotation. I wanted to share with you a few and also a DIY pair.
I have always liked the look of the tall ones but found them to be quite pricey so I was thrilled to find some semi tall ones for next to nothing. I prefer a pepper mill to freshly grind and these had that too but they were just too plain. Very easy fix. Just some regular acrylic paint, a design idea and many coats of varnish, to keep the paint from scratching and make them wipe able. Ta da what I think to be unique and pretty shaker set. These are two other sets I have picked up, mind you each set only being a couple bucks. Cute little pine ones with nice big holes and the tiny set from Japan. I love this little set. One it is so tiny and cute, another is the interesting features, tiny pepper mill, sliding door to fill it and the silver salt circle swivels for filling. They are very well made a enjoyable to look at. So there you have style and function all on a budget. Don't forget the all important feature, unique.
